Hi! I am not sure if this is the place for me to ask this, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help. I am an IMG and I've just received news of my step 1 failure. Me being devastated is to say the least(I was hoping to finish all steps quickly to qualify for 2009 match. Note to self: Remember the Story of the Hare and the Tortoise). But I stand confident of doing my step 2 well, and my repeat step1 well too. But what bothers me really is whether i would get matched somewhere whether Program directors would want an IMG who did it on second chance?Help! Please!

Definitely failed step 1 has a negative impact on your prospects. Many programs want IMGs to pass all the steps in FIRST attempts. Yet some have set cut off at three that is they do accept if failed twice and passed at third attempt. Some programs don't discriminate on the basis of attempts but they are very few. In short, try to pass all your exams in ONE GO.
