Yeah, I fell for that answer, too. But it's not the correct one. Try again! Key word is from aBducted position (not normal position). What is the only muscle that will elevate eye from the aBducted position?

ah man.. silly me  yeah... Abducted is superior rectus! CN III innervation. But how would you test it? I am not sure... I would think the test is as your question states -> abduct eye and see of patient can elevate the eye?

SR depresses n intorts eyeball IR elevates n intorts d eyeball SO depresses n extorts IO elevates n extorts SO n IR depress d eyeball IO n SR elevate d eyeball n. supply Re6( SO4)3 yeah u r right SR is tested by asking d pt to elevate abducted eye. IR is tested by asking d pt to look up with abducted eye. SO by asking d pt to look down with ADducted eye IO by elevating d ADducted eye.

Ok, I am kinda confused :? How can Superior Rectus depress the eyeball? I thought it elevates it. And Inferior rectus does the opposite. Hmmm, can u explain mash?

Ok guys, just looked up some of my notes from kaplan and here is what I have. Learn it cold Superior Rectus  elevates and aDDucts the eye from neutral position. From the aBducted position, it’s the only muscle that can elevate the eye. Test: Ask pt to first look to the side, then look up. Inferior Oblique  elevates and aBducts the eye from neutral position. From the aDDucted position, it’s the only muscle that can elevate the eye. TEST: Ask pt to look first to the nose, then look up: up and in “toward the bridge of nose.” Inferior Rectus  depresses and aDDucts the eye from neutral position. From the aBducted position, it’s the only muscle that can depress the eye. TEST: Ask pt to first look to the side, then look down. Superior Oblique  depresses and aBducts the eye from neutral position. From the aDDucted position, it’s the only muscle that can depress the eye. TEST:Ask pt to look first to the nose, then look down: “down and in” toward the tip of the nose. Medial/Lateral Rectus  aDDuct/aBduct eye TEST for Medial: Ask pt to look at the nose medially. TEST for Lateral:Ask pt to look to the side.
