Your medical school should give you one or the other - an MSPE or a dean's letter. I don't have a clue why they won't provide one to you.

To BBB

There are a few of my friends who are not on this forum, and their colleges have also refused to give them the MSPE, but they will give the Dean's letter which would be a one page document. It seems the colleges which don't have many of their students applying for the USMLEs are reluctant to sign a document they are not familiar with.

Any advice on this?

MSPE is a big headache for me too. I know for sure that my school won't provide me with that, either a dean's letter or MSPE. I will try though. If I could not get that, according to the information I gathered from ERAS, I could just mention it somewhere in my application package that I could not get one.

If you are unable to secure the MSPE from your medical school, you must indicate this on page 12 of your Common Application Form (CAF). A neutral placeholder letter will be provided in place of the MSPE. The placeholder letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, “This is in lieu of an MSPE.” This will ensure that your application will appear as complete for those programs that require an MSPE before considering your application.

Agree with Sadiq but if you have a Dean's letter instead of MSPE then click "yes" where it asks if you or your college will provide MSPE. In this case your Dean's letter will be treated as your MSPE.

ERAS has received both my Dean's letter as well as my MSPE. Will this create some confusion on which document they will send to programs?

Will there be an option or a check box which will allow me to choose which of the two do I actually want to transmit to the programs?confused

guys, my school just gave me a mspe, and it's very similar in content to what they ask in the US, only that it's in narrative form and without charts and statistics. Should I ask my school if they can provide a letter in the sample format (unique characteristics, etc) instead of narrative? it doesn't seem that important...

program directors really have the time to read them? mine is 4 pages.
