In a 24-year-old woman, which of the following is the most likely to induce a shift in the normal balance of bone accretion and resorption toward net bone loss? A) Bodybuilding and use of anabolic steroids B) Eating a high-calcium diet C) Living on a space station for the past 6 months D) Metabolic alkalosis and chronic vomiting E) Running 1-2 miles, 3 times weekly

NO ....not cuz of lack of sun ....cuz of decreased gravity which doesnt impose any stress on the bones thts why ..same reason why swimming will do such thing .....

well cant be A either as if you take anabloic steroids you will testosterone as well and tht checks IL-1 as well .moreover anabolic steroids are known to cause hepatic adenoma ......

why i said lack of sun for last 6 months wasnt a big issue cuz firstly there are so many countries where sun doesnt comes out for 7-8 months so acc. to this theory everyone shuld have the bone resorption ........yeah sun can play imp. factor but i think when its like 1-2 yrs or something ...

C There is a relationship between bone mass and steroids (A) but C is definitely a better and definite answer.

so far i agree with hitesh ...A bodybuilding and anabolic steroids are about building lots and lots of muscle and no fat....there goes your estrogen and your osteoclasts are on the loose

C. Had to do some research. From wikipedia. "Spaceflight osteopenia refers to the characteristic bone loss that occurs during spaceflight. Astronauts lose an average of more than 1% bone mass per month spent in space." "These effects can be minimized through a regimen of exercise." "Female-specific side effects [of anabolic steroid abuse] include increases in body hair, deepening of the voice, enlarged clitoris, and temporary decreases in menstrual cycles." "Weight lifting reduces the risks of osteoporosis." I don't like this question, because I've seen similar questions that ask about female patients with anorexia and excessive exercise having premature bone loss.
