Much to my relief I just found out I passed (231/94) and thought I'd share my experience. Background: Graduated from a Canadian medical school in 1994, and I've been a practicing specialist since 1999. Wrote Step 1 in March 2004. I prepped for about 10 weeks but being quite new to the US medical system I really wasn't quite sure where to start. I initially used the Princeton Review until someone pointed me to Qbank. I also supplemented with First Aid. During my studies it was quite apparent that it had been a long time since med school! Towards the end I was scoring about 65-75% on Qbank.
After I wrote the exam (and during) I felt pretty awful and was sure I had failed miserably and I'm normally one who can guage pretty accurately. I didn't think the exam I did resembled Qbank at all except for format. It seemed that the exam questions demanded answers far more detailed than that in qbank. Many, many questions on molecular biology. On average I'd say I felt confident about 1 out of every 5 questions. So I just about fell over when I got my results. Now I know what they mean about bell curves.
I don't mean to be discouraging in anyway about the exam. Certainly the majority of postings indicate that Qbank is an accurate reflection of the real exam and that it may be more challenging according to some. There's obviously variation between exams but it all comes out in the wash with their scoring system. So if you feel badly about your performance, don't despair 'cause it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

being a canadian, i'd like to ask u if u have any information about a forum for the canadian evaluating exam or the canadian board in general. i'm preparing to pass & i'm unable to find any studying forum.

i think you are goin' great.you have been practicing medicine since 1999 and giving exam on 2004.am on the second year and am thinking to apply for usmle just after i get my medical degree form this collge.do you think i can make it?
