how much does a green card and a 5 year experience as a resident in internal medicine in UK help.

how much does 7 years since graduation hurt in the residency match.

can i do anything about it?

well...your 7 year gap since graduation is not a problem as u have clinical experience....the problem is for those ppl who did not do anything aft graduation and lost clinical touch...btw UK clinical experience counts a lot...proved in last year match...and with green card u dont have to worry abt visa....as u know its the over all package tht counts..including ur scores nd interview skills....in my opinon u have vedry good chance....good luck...

The advantage of Greencard is you can apply to Programs that don't sponsor visas and secondly it makes sense that your application will be stronger than other colleague's application with your same credentials but with need of visa sponsorship.

Your UK experience is a plus.

Regarding the graduation year just do your homework in researching Programs and e-mailing PCs about their requirements. They may do an exception of the 5 years gap due to your UK experience.

Good luck!

thanks ivonne
i am closely watching this thread for obvious reason.
i was worried about my 7 years since graduation.
i have seen a list on fmamerica(i think)- with application requirements for each program. also saw some one mention matcharesident website- wonder wht your views are with regard to them?

Honestly I don't know about those websites but surely They don't do anything for free. Do your homework, research in freida, scutwork, AAMA, the Programs website and ultimately e -mail the PCs if you have extra doubts.

The best of lucks!
