I wanted to do observership in a hospital but the person who set up pbservership told me that its not an optimal choice . they do it for college students to help them in making the decision of entering med school ! that's what i know

Well, observership is always better than nothing. Yet, it's not considered as hands-on USCE which is required by few programs. However, If the PD is choosing between the applicants for his residency program, he will choose the one with observership over the one with nothing at all. He also will choose the one with externship or elective over the one with observership. He will also choose the one with USCE at a well known institution with solid LORs. He will also choose the one with better scores, recent date of graduation, research and publications. Try to think of it as a war, these are your weapons. If you have'em all, you're the winner. But, having weak weapons doesn't mean that you're gonna lose cuz your enemy may have got no weapons at all OR the princess you're both fighting for just fell in love with you ( Love is blind, you know ). Good luck.
