Shouldn't it be Antibiotics and WARM compresses? I can't remember or find it right now.

if it is a mastitis then..all I know is before you start the antibiotic...she should continue to breastfeed from the same breast... what is a breast pump??? If abscess..then ....drain!

I agree with E as well... You have to give some anti-staph antibiotics and continue breast feeding, not only from the unaffected breast but from the one with mastitis too. This will help alleviate the engorgement and inflammation. To answer MAB: A breast pump is a device nursing mom's use to pump out the milk so they can feed their baby with it later... I guess for convenience.

unilateral breast pain...1 month postpartum is characteristic of mastitis hence treatment is antibiotics Ice packs infact suppress lactation and are used in mothers who do not breastfeed(eg.stillborn baby;neonatal death)
