higher the academic ranking of the person, more the value of the LOR. another factor to consider is how well the lor writer knows you and how strongly can put forth your case...

So both aspects need to be considered when deciding who your lor writers are going to be.. i guess it goes without saying that american lors are superior to home country ones....

thanx prusiner ....

i got ur point...its been very difficult for me to get LOR from any AMERICAN doc...so i have forget forget tht i may get any lor from US doc..

but unfortunatly my HOD has signed LOR with black pen mistakenly...now i m confused whether i sh'd send same LOR or sh'dnt send.

you still have time.. contact your hod and request him again.. if thats not possible call eras/ecfmg and ask them if its ok to send the same.. you can mail eras support too.. they are quite prompt in replying(3-4 days)

i just called ecmfg ..they said tht it depends on program whether to accept lor with black sign or not..but they said they will scan and upload documents...
now they make me more confused.shockedshocked

bbb said in an earlier thread ..they would accept it and consider it a copy. also if the stamp is blue..it is better. i am sure if there are doubts the PD cant always contact ur LOR writer if there is contact info on the LOR.. try and get a new one if u can tho...

thanx ganesha123 for ur help..

i really dont understand why they will consider it as a copy, although its original...anyways will try to get new one..but its gonna give lots of pain again.

I have an LOR question:

I did 2 externships in a large private hospital,....one in IM and one in Psychiatry, but apparently this hospital only uses One official letterhead (they do not have departmental letterheads.....)..So both the letters, though entirely different in content , will have the exact same letterhead....I asked some people about it and they said that this is quite normal....but if anyone has an opinion I'd like to hear it

Hope everyone is coping in this rather stressful time....lol

Good Luck!

interestingly this hospital doesn't have departmental stamps either......Its basically a large hospital with beds on every floor, a seperate psych unit, an ER and 2 ICUs........Anyhow both writers wrote their name, their specialty, and they signed them.....They don't have stamps or seals.....I called ECFMG and they told me that its fine without a seal.....so long as its on an official letterhead with the signature not being black....

Hopefully it should be fine....
