Hi guys.. I always see in this forum everyone(majority) getting board score of 95 and above....if thats the case then...how about people who got their scores in the mid 80s?????do they really stand a chance to match in IM?(not including USCE etc)!....what does the program actually look for INITIALLY??thanks a lot guys....

Well, no one really knows the answer to your question.....our guess it is as good as yours. In my humble opinion, mid to high 80s should definitely allow for a shot in IM, especially if its coupled with USCE or other things.....like no need for visa, etc..... The bottomline is don't psych yourself out and avoid applying to programs based on hype....check the application criteria and if you qualify go for it! Good luck

thanks akm, my step-1 is 84 cs passed first atempt 7 months of private practice externship 2005 grad yet to take ck...will try my best to make it over 90....then depends on God my questions is-if only 1 score is 84...should I still apply to the programs that require minimum of 85????????because if its like that then I have to take off so many good programs...just because of 1 digit

MAB remember that is the whole package that counts. If you are unsure about the score criteria of the programs then contact them by e-mail and ask them. I would recommend you to focus on your ck, self-assess your preparation with the NBMEs and study hard to get a 90+ score. Good luck!

My personal stats are Step 1: 86, CS: Pass; Both first attempt, 2 months externship (5 weeks IM and 4 weeks Psychiatry....both in a large private hospital) and I'm a US Citizen, graduated 2007..... I'm really hoping to get into IM (and hopefully will raise my CK score by at least 5 points over my step 1 which would get me into the lovely 90s)..... As for minimum criteria I would contact the program..but I personally believe that the minimum criteria is a filter thats set to weed out the thousands of applications....because they can't read them all......but asking never hurts Good luck!
