A 28yo woman has sporadic attacks of intense anxiety, with marked physical symptoms including hyperventilation, tachycardia, and sweating. If she is diganosed as sufereing from a panic disorder, the most appropriate drug to use is
A. Alprazolam
B. Chloral hydrate
C. Flurazepam
D. Meprobamate
E. Propranolol

A Alprazolam is teh drug of choice for panic attacks

E propranolol is for stage fright or people that are scare to speak in public. yes I know I said the same thing twicegrin

I think the answer is A

the last sentence in the question confirms that she is diagnosed with panic disorder. so Rx of panic disorder is Alprazolam

Propranolol is used only to reduce the somatic symptoms of anxiety such as tachycardia. and this is more appropriate in 'performance anxiety' because there is no inherent panic disorder, the anxiety is only temporary (due to performance) so use of propranolol is appropriate.

In another note remember they are giving propranolol for people after a trauma so it will lower the PTSD.
Interesting stuff.

yeah i checked with few other sources its definitely A it was not given in pharma notes so i thought e wud be the right choice.

I was explaining why A is the correct answer qnd E was the incorrest answer.
