Tourette Syndrome is an inherited, neurological disorder characterized by repeated and involuntary body movements (tics) and uncontrollable vocal sounds.
for dx: multiple motor tics present for over 1 yr,must occur before age 18
-3-4 times more common in boys than girls
-association w/ ADHD (50%), OCD (40%)
-Abnormalities in dopaminergic and adrenergic systems
-Intial tics are in face n neck, progress down
-coprolalia although quite popular is present in one third of cases
-chronic with remissions n exacerbations
antipsychotics haloperidol n pimozide, fluphenazine
noradrenergic as clonidine
some cases get help with botulin toxin
