I have this homework assignment and I can't figure out the answer to 1 of the questions. I've read all the chapters and still am lost. Could someone please guide me or give me an idea of what the answer is? Describe the regulation of NK activation. Thank you in advance, May

The only type of regulation I can think of for NK cells is the ADCC or antibody dependant cellular cytotoxicity mechanism: NK cells have a receptor that identifies the FC portion of IgG. When they encounter a cell with IgG bound to foreign antigen, NK cells bind to it and kill the infected cell by releasing perforins and granzymes. Mononuclear phagocytes also use this method.

i think it is important to point out the MHC 1 has an inhibitory affect on NK cells. For example, herpes shuts down MHC I so Cytotoxic T cells cant recognize and attack but NK cells can. And when it comes to stimulation i think IL 12 IFN alpha IFN beta are only ones that stimulate NK cells.. Oh and also ADCC plays more of a role with CMV because CMV is known to down regulate MHC 1 ( Tc cant attack ) and make a fake MHC 1 ( NK cells cant attack ) and thus leaving u with ADCC response since THelp cells can still recognize MHC II and do their stuff.
