hi,

i passed mbbs in 2002 but my diploma is dated 2004. i checked with ecfmg and they said its ok to use date on diploma as graduation date. but in my mspe states that i graduated in 2002 and did 1 yr of internship till 2003. now im confused which date to show as graduation date. my concern is, mspe is the only document which the program sees and not the diploma. so if i put the date on diploma, they may wonder as to why there are 2 conflicting dates( as they are not viewing the medical diploma). has anyone been in the same situation? please advice.

thanks

Graduation date is the date on your degree.............period.

Hi Sandra, I had the exact same doubt....I had called ECFMG last week and the lady said that the year in which I completed all my requirements for the MBBS degree would be the graduation date, as that is what is given in my MSPE and also on the certificate that shows the completion of internship.

Thank you sadiq naveed and Moozy for your suggestion;

My concern is that in my application for the USMLE exams (on ECFMG) I had mentioned graduation date to be 2001 whereas on diploma it is 2002, so should I change it now for ERAS or is it wise to use the same date that I mentioned in ECFMG?

Would really appreciate any input on this! Thanks!

I think you should stick to the same format once selected to avoid any future complications. If you can explain why you mentioned the particular year (2002 in your case)as year of your diploma (obviously you can as it is written on the diploma itself), there shouldn't be any problem. I did the same thing after confirming with ECFMG. They asked me to do the same.

thanks for the input guys....i got the same response from ecfmg. but the only thing im worried about is....how would the program director or whoever sees the application know which date is mentioned on our diploma? the only document that they are seeing is mspe...so if i show the date on diploma as graduation date (in my case, 2004), wouldnt they take it for fake (as the mspe states that i graduated in 2002 and did finshed internship in 2003)?

is there a question on ERAS asking for graduation date? I can only see date medical diploma was issued..please let me know where in ERAS application does it ask about graduation date, thank you

in eras, they have asked for degree title and"degree" date ...not "graduation" date...

Graduation date rule may be different in different countries like in Pakistan Internship( house job) is not mandatory for graduation so graduation date means the year student gets his/her dergree/the date final year result is announced, on the other hand in countries where the internship is mandatory, the graduation date means the day they complete their internship.
