what is the no.1 cause of meningitis in AIDS?

  #2

Criptococcus

  #3

I dont know...it might still be S. pneumoniae. the MCC of fungal meningitis and the MCC of fungal CNS infection is Crypto, but I am not sure that it causes more meningitis than anything else in AIDS.

i.e. even though we associated pneumocystis with pneumonia in AIDS, the MCC of AIDS-pneumonia is still S. pneumoniae.

The info on Cryptococcus is available in most micro books(.g. Jawetz),and for AIDS pts specific opportunistic infection listed are Candida albicans, pneumocyst carinii(PCP) and cryptococcus amongst others and Cryptococcus is the cause for meningitis,C albicans is implicated in thrush(oral) while pcp is implicated in pneumonia.Hope this helps.
