After we submit loR to ecfmg it says they require 4-6 weeks to upload our documents Yes,this is a new feature in ERAS 2009 for finalizing the LoR's.In this we have to assign LoR's to the program even before we apply to the program This is what ECFMG website says: Finalizing Letter of Recommendation (LoR) Writers at the MyERAS Site The Letter of Recommendation (LoR) section of MyERAS allows you to create a list of individuals who will write letters on your behalf. New for ERAS 2009, you can finalize your LoR writers before you apply to programs. In previous years, an LoR could not be attached to your electronic application until you assigned the LoR to at least one program to which you had applied. This year, as soon as you finalize your LoR writers, ERAS Support Services at ECFMG will receive an update that allows us to scan your LoRs and make them available to programs when you apply. ERAS Support Services at ECFMG strongly recommends that you finalize your LoR writers once you have registered at MyERAS. To finalize an LoR writer, create a new letter writer by clicking “Designate a New Letter of Recommendation Writer” in the Documents section of the AAMC MyERAS website. Fill out the information and click “Save”. Repeat this process for all of your designated letter writers. After you have finished designating your letter writers, click the check box(es) next to the writer(s) that you wish to finalize, enter your MyERAS password in the box provided, and click “Finalize”. IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you finalize the letter writer, you cannot edit the designated LoR request. It is your responsibility to follow-up with letter writers and confirm that your LoRs have reached ERAS Support Services at ECFMG in time to meet program deadlines. Now my doubt was will ECFMG only scan the LoR's that we finalize for the program?

Pls tell me if I got this wrong - So we can "finalise" as many LoRs as we like to, but eventually we 'assign' LoRs to programs only when we apply, right? Then whats the whole idea of 'finalising' LoRs? Is it meant to allow you to "assign'' an LoR even when it has not reached ERAS.. (you know if in case you're expecting an LoR in Sep end, but you wanna apply on Sep 1st.. So, just 'finalise' that LoR now and asign it when you apply and it'll be updated once it reaches ERAS.. Am i thinking right?

caduceus wrote: man..seriously need some advice frm the seniors... justice where r u man? Hey, sorry to be late with my part of explanations... Honestly, I don't quite understand the question. OK, step by step: After you submit your LORs to ECFMG for scanning (of course, with all LOR request forms and DSF), first you can see them at Verify Receipt of ERAS® Documents of your ECFMG/OASIS account... If you see your docs there that means that they are 1. received; 2. scanned; 3. ready to be uploaded; If you don't see them there, the docs are either not received, or received but not scanned yet... This process takes sometime, and not necessarily 7 days... At this moment I can see at Verify Receipt of ERAS® Documents of my ECFMG/OASIS account my MSPE (I sent Dean's letter BTW), transcript and photo... Now, as for your ERAS application, that's another story. After you finalized your LOR writers, assigned your LORs to programs, and OFFICIALLY applied to programs on/after September 1, there is another service at your AAMC/ERAS account, and it it called The Applicant Document Tracking Service (ADTS)... You go there (right now it is empty because nobody applied to programs yet) and see what you sent to programs, and what was uploaded by ECFMG to the LOR tags your created. LORs/Transcript/Photo are usually uploaded within 24-48 hr, provided that they are received and scanned; PS is available immediately; MSPE is not available till Nov 1, because this is a time when MSPEs for AMGs are released... Since you submitted your stuff to ECFMG, and do not need to file any other forms or documents... Just work on your ERAS application... Hope I clarified your concerns...

Justice, thanks for the detailed reply. I still have some doubts. (1) If we upload digital photo in OASIS account, how can we verify receipt of the same? Does the receipt of submission of digital photo also come under the same tab as for LORS, MSPE, and transcript? I am asking you bc I uploaded one digital photo couple of days ago and it still says, "We have not yet received any documents for your ERAS® 2009 application." although I received immediate confirmation of its receipt after the photo was submitted. (2) Regarding LOR, suppose if we finalize 6 LORs in ERAS application, and assign specialties for each, can we still have a choice of changing a specialty for a particular LOR if we change mind while applying? Is it really during applying or finalizing that our assignments to LORs become finalized for a specialty and programs? I hope I clarified enough. Waiting for your reply, justice.

You do not get confirmation of receipt of anything, including docs you mentioned... The section of ECFMG account I referred to in my above post includes document which were received, VERIFIED and PROCESSED... You eventually see what ERAS has for you for the final step of application in September... YES, info on accepted (NOT RECEIVED) photo is in the same section as for accepted and processed MSPE, transcript and LORs... I repeat once again that it takes some time to process even directly uploaded photo... If you see nothing, this means that your photo has not been processed yet... As for LORs, and writers: once you created a record on your referee, his title, department and specialty (not program) you will send his LOR, you are asked to finalize the record. After that you can change nothing... Read carefully instructions, please, they are given in black on white... They say that is you made a mistake, there is no way to fix it, and you have to create another record without mistake... Or make changes such as other specialties... When you send LORs to programs, you are free to select any programs/specialties, and assign any LORs unless the programs downloaded your stuff... After that you can change nothing...
