angel^Doctor wrote: Thanks 7ooDa, good luck ! let us know how it turns out ! btw, you said harvard accept 90% of applications . from where did you get this peice of info and how accurate is it . plus, if it's true why didn't you consider it It's in their application form ( Q & A ) section. They state that about 1200 students apply each year ( 80-90 % are scheduled). The tuition is 3200 $ ( not too much different from Yale in fact ) and you know, it's Harvard buddy ( really worth every penny ). The problem is they are asking for too many documents ( some of which I dun know even what they are talking about and where to obtain these ). And when I send e-mails, I get automated messages for example what's the CORI thing they are asking for !! Here is a link for the application form : http://www.hms.harvard.edu/registrar/forms/newapp... I wish you can help me with understanding what to do ( you asked me, so blame yourself ).

In emtyaz buddy which I am doin' right now. Emtyaz for us stands for 4th year in U.S. medical schools. That's the time when you rotate from one elective to another. Officials at your medical school might not know this. But, you can tell'em and explain. I did this and they are convinced now. Just tell'em the fact that if you didn't finish Emtyaaz, you will never be a graduate. So, you're still a student. Plus finishing your core clerkships is a MUST for electives. These are the rounds of 5th and 6th years in Egypt. So, technically, you can't do elective except in Emtyaaz. Another fact is, Indian students have the same system as Egypt and they do electives in their internship year. It's a fact. Good luck buddy and thanks for the advice.

ramyazzam wrote: I'm telling you guys when I mailed this temporary certificate to ECFMG, the counselor, or whoever gets the e-mails at info@ecfmg.org replied telling me you better re-apply as a student. I did tell him that it's just a matter of time till I get the diploma, while I'm still in training. He insisted that I should still apply as a student to avoid "suspicious behavior", and I didn't want that so I decided I'd apply when I'm through with internship we khalas. Another piece of evidence that proves they consider those in emtiaz as students, is that there was this agency in Maryland called FMGaffordable... it provides externships for FMGs for a considerable amount of money, you can't say it's non profit, $ 4000 for 4 weeks isn't exactly affordable. Anyways, when I asked the sponsoring physician, an Indian Charu Mehta M.D, about clerkships or (electives), she told me that they offer that to last year students, preferably in the last 2 months of internships (that even applies to India apparently), so that the 2 months of electives, in co-ordination with your native university, would be transferred to the internship credit. Look at this to make things more clear. That's quoted from the Egyptian IMGs thread.

Yes, doctor_mhl. That's the date of end of your Emtyaaz. And about other places, I had to narrow my circle so that I can apply for two or three programs only. You're welcome, anytime.

Nope, but I heard that Kasr Al-Ainy do consider Emtyaaz as the final year in medical school. About malpractice, it's not a must for all programs. However, you can buy it when you arive to the U.S. from local companies that are easy to reach once you're there.

Nothing is for sure. This money is just for processing your application. No guarantees here.

NW university returns half of the application fee if they're not able to schedule you for an elective. Most ( probably all) wont return you the application fee if you're rejected.

maoudoody wrote: 7ooda who said to u that in emtyaaz u r not graduated? contact the program and tell them about that cause when i contacted texas medical center they told me once u r in internship u r no further student That's true, man. cuz in U.S. Internship means PGY1 which is the first year of your residency in the U.S. In Egypt and India, Internship means something else which is equal to the 4th year of medical school in the U.S. when you're rotating between different electives.

Check this out, guys. Another thing to prove my point : Item 17. Medical Education Status In some countries, in addition to completing the medical school curriculum, individuals must complete a period of internship and/or social service or fulfill other requirements, such as a thesis or state/national examination, to be eligible for the final medical diploma. If you are in the process of completing the requirements to be eligible for the final medical diploma, you should indicate you are a "Student." If you have completed the requirements to be eligible for the final medical diploma, you should indicate you are a "Graduate," regardless of whether your final medical diploma has been issued. ================================================= From ECFMG website.

doctor_mhl wrote: yes 7ooda you re right . but some people say we can issue the final diploma without emtiaaz , anyway i'm convinced for many reasons that during emtiaaz you re related to coolege and not a graduate NEVER !! You can never ever get your final diploma without finishing your internship. Who told you that ? You can just issue a TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE ( it's issued with that title ). And if you try to send it to ECFMG for example, they will reject your application and ask you to apply as a student. One of our friends even got warned for that being a suspicious behaviour ( He tried to apply as a graduate while in internship ). I hope you're 100 % convinced now.
