Hi
I am hoping to start an externship/observership in a community hospital 2 weeks from now.It is for 2 months. Is it better to complete 2 months of externship and submit CAF by sept 15 OR SHOULD I APPLY on sept 1 with the USCE I wud have by sept 1?I am working as a research trainee from jan 2008.I have no stellar scores or any other usce.

It will hurt you at all to apply after Sep 15.

hi Argo, If you will get american LORs plus the USCE by Sep 15, it may well be worth your while waiting till then to apply; however, if you have enough LORs, it is advisable to apply as soon as you can and include the expected amount of USCE you will have at the end of the observership period.

I tried to enter an expected date of publication of one of my papers (August) and ERAS system requested me to enter "a valid date"... This means that no prospective dates can be entered... Your Nov paper cannot be entered earlier than Nov, but you can skip the date of the publication and give PubMed ID instead... It should be OK than

I have a feeling that when you enter USCE as a volunteer activity and the end date sometime in September (if you do it now), the system will not allow you to do that. Try this trick, and you see the result yourself...

My advice: wait till the end of your USCE and apply On Sept 15... It is importnat to have this activity on the list... There is no benefit to apply On Sept 1 vs Sept 15... DO NOT FALL INTO TRAP OF SEP 1 HYSTERIA. If you said you wanted to apply on Oct 15, then it is a different story... Oct 15 would be late, but not Sept 15...

sure! u shd mention both d USCE (under work experience) and d research in CAF. u may not have an opportunity to include them after submittin ur applications, and most interviews will be between november and january...just dont add anything u can not defend by that time in case it comes up durin ur interviews.

I always thought that you dont have to write any end date for continuing experience. Let's say that one applies on sept 1 and as of that date; he is working.. no end date for that experience goes on CAF. Does it harm; I dont think so. LOR sent to ERAS after sept 15th will be uploaded in 3-4 weeks. That is good enough time.

15th sept is not that late and should not adversely effect applications; i still beleive the earlier the application is sent , the better it is.

I agree with Moozy - I would apply on the first and then send the LOR to ECFMG when you get it.
