A 55-year-old white male is brought to the emergency department for weight loss. He appears thin, emaciated, and unkempt. His accompanying social worker states that the man has not been seen at the local soup kitchen in the last 10 days. The patient demonstrates normal cognitive ability, no hepatosplenomegaly, and no fruity odor to his breath. Laboratory results reveal normal liver enzymes, insulin levels, and adrenal axis. i think also "b" or"d" but asmi do u have any explanation why not "b". i m also agree with "d"

though the RBC and the brain use glucose as their main source of energy...in prolonged starvation the brain can also utilise ketone bodies. I don't understand why the answer is D because won't it be 'expected' that gluconeogenesis has no longer an important role after 10days of fasting??Why should it be unexpected lower gluconeogenesis??!!!
