A 33-year-old woman comes to the physician for a routine physical examination. She and her husband have been unable to conceive for 10 years. Prior evaluation for infertility has shown no abnormalities in the woman or her husband. They have sexual intercourse once every six weeks. The wife is satisfied with their current frequency of sexual activity and reaches orgasm on the majority of occasions. Her husband, however, would prefer more sexual activity and he is upset about not having children yet. The wife’s history does not include sexual abuse or assault. She says, “I’m worried there is something wrong with me. I just don’t think about sex.” She says she is sad she doesn’t have children yet and distressed that she and her husband argue about this often. However, she remains motivated at work and takes pleasure in her career. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?

A) Adjustment disorder with depressed mood
B) Dysthymic disorder
C) Female sexual arousal disorder
D) Hypoactive sexual desire disorder
E) Major depressive disorder
F) Sexual aversion disorder

I suppose the answer is D - hypoactive sexual disorder.
