The ECFMG site contains explanations to anything they have on their e-pages. Please do a home work or at least Google search before posting questions.

if you are just sitting the USMLE, then you dont need the validation stickers. your certificate when you get is indefinite and does not expire forever. if you decide not to do residency until 10yrs after you get the ecfmg certificate, it is still valid. only problem will be theprograms who might not like an oldie. if you did the USMLE around the 80's or maybe 90's, then you need to apply for the validation sticker. i was also confused about it so i called ECFMG and htey explained it to me.
