depends on the state requirement i guess. i'm working as a Medical Assistant and i don't have any certification.

ladydocz You just cannot work as a surgical assistant here in US.Nobody will ever take risk of allowing anybody who is not certified here in US to assist him/her.You will be fortunate if anybody allows you anywhere near the OR.Just forget it.

I've been working in the US as a Medical Assistant for a very reputable pvt clinic and my job involves assisting in surgeries. I did not have any certification except my MBBS when I started assisting 3 years ago. It depends on the State regulations in which you are working and also the office policy of the clinic / hospital. dermdoc57.......its really not necessary to be so discouraging towards fellow forum members.

Dermdoc57-I know THAT!But did you know that IMGs with surgery degrees are eligible to get SA certification.I just want to know whether anybody has tried taking that exam .How hard is it?Is it worth it?etc.. Good luck too all and thanks for responding,including dermdoc57..
