I have my test in 3 weeks. I usually run 4 miles when I finish my day schedule at 8 PM. I go to bed at 12 and as soon as I hit the pillow I die. Running is the best even the day before your test date.

  #3

You are right....It helps me so much with the clarity of thought. I score an average of about 7-10% better on qbank on the days I run. Perhaps I will try to do the running earlier in the day/night. I was running around 10pm and trying to go to bed by 12. Good luck on the exam Toroloco. If you have any more advice you can email me at double_loco@yahoo.com

Hi,
Best advice for getting good sleep......Do some exercise ( any kind ) and yes, jogging is best ! I know this because lately i was having this problem because of stress of not doing good in my studies .So, I just started running on treadmill for about 20-30 min. per day and only this much helped me a lot .Now i feel much energy and more focus in importent things.......And i sleep well now.
Best wishes for your exam.

Thanks rjay,

I know the benefits of exercise are well documented. Even most of my friends who have done well both in school and got very good residencies atest to the benefits of exercise in sleep and focus. I am in Michigan studying for the exam and it is usually really cold outside....don't have the treadmill....so, I usually do not run. Can't wait for the summer to come here.

Lately it has been warm....about 16Cº or 60Fº your pick....so....warm. Only a few days past it was in the 40's.....not very pleasant for jogging outdoors. I am thinking about joining the gym for 1 month...until it is warm all the days. Oh, I usually run at night. My family is in chicago....but, me studying for the step 1 with friend in ann arbor, mi. Thanks...I will see the posts.

I don't have any problem sleeping...I mean..I do...I sleep 5 hrs a day ( I usualy go to bed @ 11:00 PM and wake up around 4 AM to go to work). I'm not taking any naps during a day-it is hard to manage sleep in the library sad . So, my advice to you, friends: Get enough sleep. Not enough sleep most certanly affects memory...What was I saying?

  #9

I stayed up from 8:30am on Tuesday until 7:20 am today. I finally got to sleep, but woke up again at 10:30am...went back to sleep and agin woke at 11:19am. Needless to say today was a waste...read 1 chapter between trying to nap in the library. Well, I am going home now...better start tomorrow.

Hey Quinn,
I really believe that you know all the advantages of exercise and I also believe that you know the cause of your insomnia too ? I just tried because you asked ? Anyway,in your case .....I think MEDITATION will work better than EXERCISE ! So,what do you think about this ?
Good Luck for the exam.

Hey rjay,

Maybe it didn't sound right the way I said it, but thanks I really do appreciate your advice. You reminded me of what my friends had told me. I have not tried meditation before. How does it work? Specifically, I does it work for this situation? Thanks in advance. Good Luck to you also on the exam. When do you sit for the step 1?

Thanks ELM for the advice....however, benidrol makes me sleepy the next day. I also tried some of the benzo's but, they do the same...plus they effect the memory. Is there anything else that I could try that would not have this effect? Sorry....pharm. is not my strong point.

A few comments: watch what you eat and drink (eat healthy, decrease fats and such). Try to get a schedule so many hours on, so many hours off. Get 30 min exercise per day. And relaxation techniques do work sometimes.
