After the exam, I felt I will fail.. one thing I am sure. If I pass it will be by God's grace, If i fail I don't deserve to be a doctor in USA since the exam is really really fair.

i made many mistakes.. but what bothers me most is that i did not knock on one door i think , i opened it and asked may i come in.. i donno what went wrong with me. Through years of schooling I have been taught to ask may I come in.. and never had to knock.. so when in that one case, my heart started pounding, instincts and learned behavior came in.

i think i wrote age of patient wrong in a pn, i am not sure.

my patient note was organised but not neat. i practiced a lot for it, but could not get myself write in a very straight line on a blank note.. i don't know if i will fail because of that.

and in one case, i almost went too near a patient's eye while doing fundoscopy that she got scared and moved backward.

I think i did well in most cases, counselled a lot even when wearing gloves, but did not counsel about smoking in one or two,and alcohol in 2-3 cases.. forgot to drape in one, but when the patient lied down for abdo, i immediately put the drape

wore gloves thru all since my hands were cold

and the first case i did not finish in time.. just at diagnosis.. that was my worst.. i did not ask many many q's there. and missed counselling there

for most cases, i did not say nice to meet u .. just hello mr.. i am dr.... i am physician.. so what brings u in.. i had practised for nice to meet u thing , but it just did not come naturally at that time.. i smiled all the time except in ER patients in acute distress. I missed 2-3 q's each case.
I did not tell about pelvic exam in one and rectal in another.

Friends, I did many right things, but the mistakes I made were enough for me to fail.

So I am just crossing my fingers.

Good luck with ur result milee

I guess you will be fine.

Even I forgot to knock the door in one case and just opened the door like that

Even I made mistakes which gave me a negative feeling for many days

In this test u r not expected to do everything but the most important things. You will be fine dont worry

Milee99.........you did not make any more mistakes than the average candidate who ends up clearing the exam in the first attempt.

My PNs were really messy. Lots of crossing over and overwriting. Plus I've been told by several people in the past that I don't have good penmanship. I made a lot other of mistakes too but I ended up passing.

Just don't think about it. There's nothing you can do to change anything till you know your result. Relax and enjoy your summer.

Good luck.......I'm sure you won't need it.

friends,

I did first aid and usmleworld.

practiced only the first aid practise cases- two times with doctors online, and read the mini cases well.

wrote many pns,

mostly right after i practised the cases on my hubby( i did all of them once with him), i wrote pn from the scrap paper i wrote on.

i timed myself.. actually washed hands, and dried them, warmed them.. i realised then that my hands can get really cold once i washed them... in actual exam i wore gloves.. i had not decided to, but my hands went very cold.. i got an unintended advantage for that ... i saved almost a minute that took for washing.drying.warming hands.

also the live practice made me realise that my hair falls over my eyes when i do the examination and gets irritating.. it usually does not fall that way.. so on exam day i pinned it up properly(its too short to tie up).. maybe a tip that will be useful for some people...

i stood for all cases, since i found maintaining eye contact better that way, and also i got a sense of urgency as far as the time was concerned. I had planned to sit, but did not feel like during actual exam.

this post is very disorganised, i am just trying to put down all that is coming to my mind.

if there are any questions , i will be happy to answer, (except what cases i got). although i have not yet passed.

Hi milee99 !

I guess you will pass. Plus and minus get Pass. No one know everything. That is enough.
Did you have difficult listening to their accent? Is it harder than StarMovie film, HBO movie or CNN channel?

Good luck and thanks for your experience.

the accent was fine.

and you will get used to it before you start with cases as the proctors will give you instructions..

try talking to the proctors by asking questions .. so you will start speaking before you speak to the first case.

Cheer up milee. I remember the day my husband came back from his specialty board. He was so frustrated and told me that he probably blew it. But he passed! His board pass rate is lower than ours!

I guess everybody made mistake and everybody felt bad after the exam. But it might not be as bad as you think.

Wish you the best.

Congratulations! Sounds like an awesome experience.
I´m going through the same post- exam stress. My patient note is so messy but I feel it is organized in my thoughts. DD and work up, I felt, was always good.
So I hope I passed, results in October....
and congrats again!
