firstly, calm down and just breathe! u can still make this match dont worry, just reapply as soon as you are able to, get the first date you can, and try to take a course that will give you the proper feedback.. i took c3ny and it really helps for ppl who are not natives from the usa! and you get a practice sp included in the cost, i didnt take kaplan, but from waht i was told it was ppl like me who pass cs are the teachers, im ont sure if that is your best teacher! the dr from c3ny was the dr who was asked to give input when they implemented csa exam way back when!! that's what i woulddo.. u can still make this match, dont wory please!! u will get thru this, just take a short course, practice as many sp's as you can, and then take it! u will do great!! just believe friend!! nodnodnod

You still have chance to apply 2009 match. I haven't done my CS yet, but I plan to apply 2009 match. So, hurry up. Try to book your next CS exam asap. But the most important thing is that you need figure our what reasons causing you didn't pass.

Hi Srita,
It really is not easy going through this - and I just want to write a note of encouragement. To some extent I understand how you feel - cause I had similar thoughts of perhaps not being able to make the match incase I failed ! But don't give up. Ganesha123 and hottie 99 have all given valid comments. What you can do is to log onto to the CS scheduling site daily and see if you can get an early date cause there are bound to be people who cancel. I am presuming you are in the U.S and will be able to fly within a short notice. I did not take any preparatory courses but in the event you find them too expensive, the other good alterative is to practise with a partner , timed and work through various cases. Also, from what I guage from the examination, I think more than history and physical exam, communication is emphasized. Given the time constraints, I found it especially difficult to do full thorough physical exams and I was not hung up on in. I remember I even missed out an important cranial nerve exam in a neuro case ! But for all my cases, I counseled, no matter what. You may find that patients ask you a question in the middle of your history or physical exam - count that as a counseling opportunity. Do close well. Even if you are not able to finish the process of counseling, I think the SPs appreciate that you tried and that is important to have at least attempted so don't worry of the time runs out half way through your counseling. These are some tips that I can suggest. Let me know if i can help in any other way ! Keep at it and you will make it through !

my heart felt thanks to hottie, cartman, arlete, ganesha, lakshmig, snowdrops, for your kind and encouraging words, you dont know how much this mean to me, my congrats to every one who passed, please clarify one more doubt, iam planning to do cs in nov 2008 coz for now that is the earliest date available , will still check daily for early date than this, but at the time of interviews i willnot be ecfmg certified will that affect my chance of getting in residency,in match 2009

  #9

HI , try and analyze the situation, I don know whether u've given u oder teps or not but if u plan 2 give CS in NOV , u'll b getting ur score report at the end of JAN and i guess u shall be ECFMG certified by mid FEB, so honestly the chance of getting interviews are really slim esp if ur an IMG whch I presume ur. All this might sound depressing but believe me ders another way of looking at it, U could give ur Step 3, try n score gud on dat, get some observership n pump up ur resume for the next year's match.

I'm sorry if I'm being too hash on u, but if u give ur CS in NOV i don think u stand a good chance for 2009 match, bcause i don believe in jus creatin false hopes, its better 2 accept realty n look ahead.

All da vry best in watever u do

I'm so sorry to read this, srita. Have faith that this too shall pass, in good time. Leave no stone unturned in your prep this time. Out practice, out study, and out perform everyone else taking the test. Success will certainly not evade you.

If you need any help, there are loads of us here who will be happy to help you out. Be on the constant lookout for a date. You will likely find something soon. Make it a point to check in 5-6 times every day, even each hour if you can. People keep canceling and rescheduling all the time. You just have to be there to grab something when it gets available. You may even get something in the next 1-2 weeks if you are diligent, regular in checking and lucky.

I wish you all the best.

i m sorry to hear that srita,

what does matter in CS is the way u do it, not what u do. get someone who has passed CS( if possible) n practice with him... i think that will help a lot... if u need standard history taking question format n challanging pt, i have posted it in CS cases section,, it will help to a great extent

all the best

freinds thanks a lot for kind words, i will take dr house notes and graize notes, kindly advice me on choosing centers, people told me la and philadelphia there is lot of img failures, shall go for them if i get adate please advice

  #17

All centers are the same. Start your prep and take the first available date regardless of the center. I had heard horrible things about the LA center and my personal experience was completely the opposite. Everyone was really cool.

Hey srita really sorry to hear you didnt pass...Im sure you will next time...just dont get frustrated! Maybe next time if CIS is the one you failed focus more on counseling definitely and everywhere I looked ppl said to show COMPASSION...I did that eventhough I didnt really care (theyre actors right?) but just like saying "Im sorry to hear that"...I think that helps...dont know if you did that...

I guess they dont really focus on your examination skills, like if you examined the VII CN or did Babinsky you know? Cause I missed A LOT of that and passed, but I did counsel on every case and at the end said something like "I know youre concerned but I will try my best...blablabla" There was also a case where this patient had hurt herself on a trip to Europe...and well I asked how the trip was? and if she had enjoyed it? you know...just make them see that you are looking at the patient as a person not only a disease....Im sure you did this but Im just giving feedback on what I did....so GOOD LUCK trust in GOD and you will succeed....

I studied FA and this site...its not my work (DigitalDoc i think) or anything but I found it VERY useful...check it out...
