I have been preparing for the exam for a while and was about to start my registration when I read on an internet forum that quite a few of my fellow Chinese medical graduates whose diplomas did not confer their degree as the extact term" Bachelor of Medicine in "Medicine"" got rejected or were asked for further verification.

It concerns me a lot as I am one of those who received a Bachelor of Medicine degree other than "medicine" but in "anesthesiology" because I took a few specialty courses in the 4th year while the majority of courses throughout the whole span of 5 years that I took were the same as those who received their degree in "Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine", literally in the same classroom under the same instructor, testing system/scale, and even same mentor during clerkship. It would be grossly unfair if ECFMG makes eligibility decisions simply based on the "term" that appears on the diploma.

I would like to know if any one of you has encountered difficulty in registration because of "diploma" related issue! Thanks for your input.

it's actually fair. they're just asking for verification, that's all. once they get the verification then you're all set. and you're not alone, all the IMGs' degrees/diplomas get verified from their medical colleges.

this rule is based on a lot of unfortunate events that have taken place over the years that have forced them to make this rule.....it's only to make it fair for you when you apply. i don't think any of us would like to work along side someone who came from some college that never existed and pretends they came from a legit. med. school. just a little bit of quality control.

as long as your med. school provides the verification, you'll be fine. and i'm pretty sure if someone were applying in your country, the employer would ensure that the applicant was providing authentic information and therefore do the cross checking.

Thanks for your response. well i was not saying it is ridiculous that they ask for verification of the diploma but rather the fact that they ask for further verification from school's dean to clarify the
degree in "xxxxx" , the difference between the
bachelor of medicine degree in "xxxxx" and the bachelor of medicine in
clinical medicine and that the completion of this program permits the practice of general medicine in China. >.<

for a professional organization certifying foreign medical graduates, they probably should have done more homework on the nuances of varying educational systems rather than shift the burden onto applicants.
