i have got observership in university for one month
now query is i can extend it for one more month.is it better to extend the duration or better to give step3 by sept end?
i mean does the duration matter in observership or its the lor?
does step3 in resume helpful to greencard holders in any way?
What do university people look in a candidate apart from scores?
regards

I am not experienced, but from all that i know.. I'd say go for the observerships. Ofc duration matters!, and moreover longer you do it, more LoRs you may get.. step 3 can wait (even for those who want an H1 B visa)..

PDs dont care abt it that much. Ofc they prefer to see that you have passed it if u want H visa ( which is not the case here).. Some ppl say it may actually negatively affect your application if you get a low score on it ! while delaying it till after the RoL submision deadline doesnt really matter..

And if you have a GC, you can relax and take your step 3 even during residency. You got plenty of time for step3.. Go for the observerships..!

thanks for reply
bt step3 during residency is not advisable...better to devote that time for some research during residency which can help in fellowship

only thing wanted to ask is how much can step3 help to gc holders?

you will have enough time after the match and before residency start to take step 3. that's what I did. As soon as I was done with interviews I started studying for step 3 and took it the end of March. There is no clear advantage or disadvantage of having step 3 score as a GC holder. take the observership and when you're done with them start thinking bout step 3. you're stressing way too muchsmiling face))

the different opinions are based on different experiences. I remember when I was in your shoes this time last year. I was stressing out like yousmiling face)) read what people say, weigh their opinions but do what you think is best. and save your energy for the interview seasonsmiling face
