..."there is a difference between knowing the path..n walking the path..."...Morpheus in "Matrix" step 2 251/99 step 1 239/99..link..http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/59703 we all know that compared to step 1, step 2ck is a long tortuous exam, in which clinical scenarios interact seamlessly wid various levels of complexity. Personally for me...though i waltzed thru each of step 1 blocks in 35-40 mins...almost each step 2 block took 50-55 mins.. understandably the exam for me was a lesson in dealing wid uncertainty.. Make no mistake guys..step 2 ck is tougher than step 1.. ...i am gonna write how i limped,,strutted n eventually managed to walk this path,.. if some of u guys might hv read my step 1 experience..u might h figured out how much i stressed upon medessentials and revision of kaplan books... but i discovered in my path along step 2 ck...that it is in solving questions ( and i mean better, complex questions..u gain newer insights n decision making..so critical to do well on step 2ck..)..secondly u need to be thorough wid high yield topics of step 2... ..now i will stop being a windbag n get to the point...the crude action which looks as a monstrosity among my beautiful plans... 1st read...read kaplan wid tapes..(5 hr/day)..2.5 months...must hear..gobs..medicine...might hear...surg...peds...avoidable..psych.. then i had a break of 5 month due to prolonged illness n some personal reasons..(eeriely similar to my step 1 prep).. after 5 months shaken but not stirred..(probably due to my good step 1 scores)..i decided to take plunge again... IMPORTANT STEP : took notes from each step 2 experience posted at prep4usmle and made a list of them subject wise..i made them on a paper..so don't bug me now to post it here..u lazy bones..hehe.. 2nd read( 1 month 7 days)..kaplan wid detailed read of the topics stressed in experiences..eg. i read jaundice in detail from harriIson..nerve lesions..from my ortho book and brain lesion localisation from step 1 material.. IMPORTANT: solved u world subject-topic wise ..made notes.. 3rd read...kaplan n u world notes...(2 weeks) Imp step...solved prep 4 usmle questions of most subjects... can u believe prep 4 usmle contains(7 days) 800 psych,600surg, 800 peds,700 gobs n 5000 med questons..(these are generally toughest n most difficult question of u-wrld/kaplan/nbme) i solved 300-400 initial questions of each...prepared most of nbme questions n helped strengthen my appreciation of decision points .. ..if i had more time..i would hv preferred to solve all questions.. IMPORTANT STEP..final revision wid u world notes (4 days) my exam: tough Medicine: lots of cardio 3-4 ecg/murmurs/ complications of MI, jaundice, ascitis, pleural effusion.obesity, osteoarthritis, nerve lesions, lower GI bleed, back pain.. Psych: ethics, timelines Surg: gall bladder, volvulus peds: Jaundice, development milestones, growth charts... g-obs: algorithmic stuff ap smear, bleeds lots of preventive med.. lots of questions from topics mentioned in experiences but expect them to be complex...read eg. read back pain, neck pain, knee pain,. pediatric jaundice in a greater detail than kaplan... when i came out of exam i did not think i would get a high score ..but when i recived my score 99/251..i was amazed..i guess this is what ppl call a beautiful surprise.!

no... instead of doing fa or crush i used my u world notes...in any case they are pathetic as far as step 2 is concerned... however i am a big fan of medessentials n devoured it in step 1 preparation... it might hurt some ppl...but frankly speaking wid rising standards of both step 1 n step 2..i don think that FA wid its focus on rote knowledge pushes the envelope too far... ..it is just for me a glorified placebo..which u can consume in 2 days and be vaguely sure of having read da whole thing... ..instead i would strongly recommend revising from marked portions of u-world question bank in final 3 or 4 days for both steps as they bolster u wid the approach to solve questions as well... ..though i used medessentials 4 step 1 which is patterned like FA but much better n integrated content wise... ...well i know i m ruffling some feathers..but FA didnt work for me..i guess to each his\hers own..!
