I graduated from medical school in 1996. I recently contacted a PD and was told that since they receive many applications, they require IMGs to be graduated within the past 4-5 years, my understanding of which is that my application won't even be reviewed whatsoever. Does anybody know if this is a screening filter? Should I still even bother to submit applications to this (or other programs that have the same requirement) program?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi

They take it seriously. They need to filter so many applicants. However, if they know you they might bypass these screening procedures. Save your money and apply to other places.

Good luck

It's taken very seriously. Here are some numbers for my program:

We have 36 first year positions. We received over 2500 applications, 938 persons graduated medical school prior to 2000. 177 graduated medical school prior to 1990. 166 were AMGs.

We interviewed approximately 190 persons, after inviting 272 persons.

lf777 has good advice "Save your money and apply to other places"

Thanks all for your reply. Although not a good news for me, but it worth knowing the truth. I browsed many programs however, find most of the programs require the graduation period (some use the term "prefer" "usually require"...), I feel pretty bad about this as I probably have already been excluded from many great programs. I guess other IMGs graduated long ago will share my feeling.

How will they be able to know us??????

Please help me understand...i`m lost here. :?
I`ve graduated in 1999 from Med school. In 2003 I`ve finished residency and I`m currently practicing my speciality. Will it be harder for me to get a position? Won`t my experience count in a good way????
Best wishes, Fernanda
