I am on a J2 visa and changing my status to a clinical J1. I have passed my USMLE step 3 but unfortunately my prog due to start in July 1 does not offer H visas. I already applied to the USCIS for a change of status and I can see its going to take forever. I am considering wihdrawing my application, obtaining a new DS2019 form ECFMG and going to either Mexico or Canada. Does anyone have any idea which of the 2 embassies are better from your experience. Any other advice is welcome. Then again my EAD (work permit) expires Aug 30th 2008) so do I wait longer for the USCIS to reply or do I give up and step out. I am told I can start the prog with the EAD Also about changing from J1 research scholar to J1 clinical I dont think thats a prob. What I gather from the internet is that the 2 year bar is for a repeat participation of research scholar not necessarily in changing to another type of J1. Someone asked about how to get a no objection ststement for a waiver of the 2 year home requirement. I have done it so can give an idea how I went about it if the person is interested still.

my advice, dont go to either of them. return to ur home country. there is high probablity of rejection in these 2 couintry. besides it is gonna take more time if it was to be accepted

J-1 research to j-1 clinical is possible but a long process. it may take anywhere from 6 months to 12 months. you will get almost no answers during that waiting period.
