Hi friends,

Most of you do not know me. I have not been active in this forum for a long time now. But some of you who do know me....I took my step 2CK on the 20th of may. Got the result yesterday. Just as the NBME predictions did not come true for my step 1 result, step 2 was also not predicted well by the NBME. But the final result surprised me. Its 95/230. I have been scoring well on UW but the NBMEs gave me just 410 and 440 before the exam. I had no hopes of getting anyhting above 85. That was a very pleasant surprise. As some of you might know that I had really worked hard for my step 1 but unlike that I did work very less for Step 2 CK. I just feel that I had been very very lucky on the 20th of may (even after the computer shut down in the middle of the exam and they restarted the exam after 30 mins). During the exam I felt they were asking me more of step 1 than what I had gone thru Kaplan notes for step 2 CK. If you had asked me just after the exam I would have said I might not even pass. But looking at the score now, I did pretty well !!!

Anyway..friends...its not a hard exam especially if you are taking it soon after step 1. Most of the step 1 concepts have been repeated (atleast in my exam). So I would say try to take CK as soon as possible after step 1.

Open to questions ...if there are any about the exam and preparation.

I am sure many of you will do well....as I said before I have active in this forum before and I have seen people working so hard for these exams...I am very sure...you guys will succeed and come out with flying colours....Good luck to all of you.

Thank you very much friends for being a very important and significant part of my exam preparations and for all the help that I got from you guys. Its been wonderful. Hope to get back to this forum soon for step 3. I have been missing all the discussions and fun sad

thanx hottie...I have become a thinker these days after facing all the stress from the USMLE. What I feel now is what counts at the end of the day is are you done with USMLE? did you get a residency? and after that...who cares about what score who got? I am happy too about being done with this exam and feels good that we have just one left (finally!)

See you in step 3 forum and All the very best...I am sure you will succeed in your plan smiling face

Take care

I did step 1 last year in June. I am very lazy in taking exams.I was in the US then. But it took me so long to take step 2 CK. Not that I studied for so long...I lazed around most of the time and then we moved out of US and took me sometime to get used to the new place and start studying. And after the exam I felt I should have taken this soon after step 1 as I was really prepared for it. As far as I remember in my exam most of the step 1 cocepts were from Pathology. If I were to decide and study some of the important step 1 subjects...I dont think I would have done step 2 ck by now. So I dont think you should spend so much time on studying books from step 1. My advice would be study for step 2 CK but do refer step 1 (may be pathology and pharmacology) wherever you think you need more information or you think you are forgetting something. I felt most of the IM, OBGYN and surgery questions were pretty straight forward...either they asked for diagnosis or they asked for treatment options... and from behavioural science...it was doctor patient relationship.(some immunology as well like Digeorge, chediak higashi and selective IgA deficiency) Step 2 ck I felt was a very good combination of step 1 and CK. If I can get a 95 by just studying Kaplan notes for CK ... I am sure anyone in this forum can...you guys prepare so well for your exams...finally take it easy...dont be nervous during the exam. I remember what Goljan said in his audio if you have not figured out the answer for that particular question (every question has more than 4-5 clues to lead you to the answer) by the end of it , then forget it..you will never find out what it was...dont waste time choose some option that feels is somehow related and move on. Thats what I did. cos most of the questions are so long..reading it twice...is not an option...

I am sure you will be fine. Study CK kaplan notes and keep this in mind that you might be asked some of the step 1 questions as well. Now I dont think I would have been able to revise all the step 1 material and study for CK. So do your best and leave the rest to God...you will be fine. Good luck.

thanks for the info....

im about to take the test and i fell like everyone says : the questions are sooooo long and twisted in comparison to UW?

how accurate is that?

i mean all the additional useless info in the real test makes u have a really hard time finding what they are asking about?
sad

congrats

Thanks very much guys.

Tuscani.... I think just above 30% of the questions are long. And as I said i my previous post , Goljan says you have 4-5 clues leading to the answer, if by the end of the question you have not figured out what the answer is...then forget it..going over that question another time is not useful. So I did the same. You will not have enough time to re read the long questions. So concentrate and read carefullly once and then try an intelligent guess. I did not feel that the questions are so twisted that you will be misled. What I felt when I did not figure out the answer at the end of first read was: the question is very fair, I should have known this, what do I do now? I do not know the answer...ok A looks fine compared to the other choices, spending anymore time on this is useless let me choose A and move ahead...thats what I did.

I still feel that the real exam questions are not as twisted and are not about any rare conditions as the UW. UW is more about rare conditions and concepts and more twisted questions.

The exam is very fair. When I got out of the exam at the end of it I thought if I fail this exam it will be completely on me...cos of not being prepared well..the exam was all about common conditions and concepts that we are expected/supposed to know at this stage.

I do not know about others. But if you ask me...the exam is fair...dont worry about it, prepare well, do your best and keep your fingers crossed.

When you see posts about exam expereinces take the positive things, prepare for the worst and give your best.

Good luck.

I dont particularly remember the questions as its been so long. But I do remember as I mentioned before about immunology..there were very specfic questions about chronic granulomatous disease, chediak higashi, Severe combined immunodeficiency and selective IgA deficiency. Questions about these were very straight forward. They asked for diagnosis and nothing much. And some pathology concepts, I am sorry I can not be very particular on what concept was tested as I was nt trying to remember the questions...but surely I felt I should have taken the exam soon after step 1 as pathology was fresh in my mind. It would have helped. I also remember a question about either gastric or duodenal ulcer (do not remember which one), they asked which artery gets eroded...the answer is gastroduodenal artery in duodenal ulcers and left gastric in gastric ulcers (Goljan pathology 1998 page 323, last paragraph,). I am sure I got this question wrong cos I got confused as this material was not fresh in my mind.

I will try to recall..but I am sure its far behind.
