Guys can somebody tell me is med-peds more competitive or less competitive for an IMG than Internal medicine ? I was planning to apply as back up,although IM is my first choice. thanks in advance

I would say med-peds is less competitive than IM and a large number of people who do med-peds dont do it as their first choice.

but then again decide, there are less programs catering to med-peds and a larger proportion of those are university based programs ...so i dont know , i think med-peds would be tougher.

Yup, thats true but still the proportion of people wanting to do med-peds to the number of programs is lower. I met people (during the interview season) who had applied to both and had got iv in med-peds from programs which had not invited them for medicine...Really doing a four year residency when u want to do a three year medicine or paeds residency isnt the choice of many!!
