Guys/Girls this is my dream
Yes the basic of going into residency and finishing it is obvious. IM or FM or Psych.
Now I love teaching so I would love to be in a place that I could also teach
Lets pretend I have a hospital or I'm in a position really high in the hospital.
I would like to have a program in which will focus in helping IMG's with the USMLE exams.
Also if you have green card or US citizen help you get a job in the hospital.
If you do not have visa or do not have green card or US citizen give you the visa to come and have the handon experience and the USCE and the review for free.
It will cover living expenses, food, books and also will have some extra money if you need to send back to your home country. or need to feed your family.
IT IS A DREAM so I know is very difficult near to impossible but its what I would love to do.
So if we take IMG's give them an entree exam and then give them review classes M-F and let them rotate and do Obserership wile they are doing their Step1 preparation. When they passed step1 then they become more active with USCE.
Also If you have papers give you a type of review or something that will let you get the nursing license or the Medical assistant license.
I know there are some ways to get them, but you will be focusiong mainly to USMLE and a little to the other things. Then if you want you can stay and work for the hospital and keep preparing for the exams.
This will tremendiously change the life of people.
Now time to get into residency hopefully we will be able to get them a position in the hospital to the top ones and help the others get a spot in other places.
What will they be asked? NOTHING
Some people will help with money or with teaching or when they have their on practice accept people to do obervership or USCE with them and maintain the relationship with the hospital and the staff.
Yes A DREAM.
But you never know.
There is a program similar but not the same in California.
From where do I get the money to do that and ALL of the bureacratic things are in the air and very dificult. But Is something I would love to do.

You and I share teh same dream
What i had in mind was a sort of a Hostel sort of a place. Dont have cash no problem give it to us when you can and we will support. But dont get me wrong we wont let u sit on ur butt either. However only for IMGs who have severely bugged by relatives and all that sort who need a place to stay in US.
Get some of the Older IMGs in their Residencies and Attendings or even big shots to start giving back ( or i run a full Mumbai style Desi boycott movement  )

You can always do this hometown IMG help, charity, sponsorship, on the side (unofficially). With out anyone knowing, you can always help whom ever you feel like. In fact, at any given moment there are Indian, Arab, ... physicians in the US helping out poor student from their hometown, by helping them financially, sponsoring their trip to the US, fixing up USCE for them, and giving them LORs and recommending them to friends at other programs and hospitals.
But, I do no think that anyone will be able to do this publically or officially. I do not think building a place in the US exclusively for helping IMGs would ever be possible. Once you are an American citizen and a physician in their health care system you would be expected to help American students, And American patients. Not wasting your and their time and money helping guys from the outside.
That is why they let you come to the US in the first place. They expect you to help Americans not to spend your time facilitating the journey of other IMGs.

Nope i sort of disagree i m in no way bound to what i cant do in my Private Life. Thats the part of American System. I m free to do anything i want and whenver i want (provided i m not breaking laws) . Other than that I or anyone else for that matter cant be stopped from Opening a Hostel, house or building to help exclusively IMGs or any other person.

We ca do community help.
Also the US IMG are US citizen
I read in another forum that there are plaes no one will want to go to work.
Maybe we can send some of the Docs over there they get training, pass the exams finish residency and get a waiver to work were there is a need and there is no american doctor that will want to go.
So is a win win situation.
Its amazing that only 2 people have made an opinion in this thread.
Even if you do not like it, you can say why in a respectfull way.

I had this dream from the day I registered this site. It is a hard task, once you start your residency, have a family ... time is very limited.
Having this in my mind, I tried a sort of contest 2-3 years ago with articles for usmle prep. A user actually got the award of $1000. The project was later closed because nobody submitted articles for many months.

See Gogeta? In my opinion building a virtual community, like prep4usmle, is much more reasonable than building a physical hostel, office, small hospital, etc. It is much easier to organize, much cheaper to run, need a fraction of the employees, and it can all be done anonymously (excluding the Administrator) and at the same time you can reach your hand out to many more people in every country on earth that has access to the internet.

What I admire, is your dream not fading away after all this time. If you do not mind, I meant to ask sometime ago, how much longer do you plan on keeping up with all of this?
Regarding the "iPrep" contest, I witnessed its closure about a year ago. Probably you could have run it in another way. Something like this: "The authors of the top 5 articles (thread in the forum) each year (based on your personal opinion and votes by senior members) receive $200" ... or something like that.

I'll keep up as long as I can ... I can't read all messages these days but I scan topic titles often. Few times a year I get emails asking if I want to sell prep4usmle but I can't do that.
From what I read on other forums I think it is a bad idea to give money for postings; on this forum also we had such experience 4-5 years ago without much benefit.
However, I am open to new ideas and willing to help/sponsor the right one(s).
One nice idea was to go local ... noticed last year some forum users in Chicago met in a restaurant after matching day.

In the future I know and I hope many of the people here well meet and keep in touch after this journey.
I know some will prefer not to and that is also ok.
I personally have a list of people I would love to meet in person.
We even had a thread that joke about how we will know who is who in the hospital, based on several unique traits.
It will be nice if we could get together.

Hey Its my dream too.
Someone tried to do it already ( i am not disclosing the name here) . unfortunately, some students got fraudulent with that, false documents, hiring agents who they paid, when it was actually free and stuff like that.. and the person who started it had to call it off.
so basically , it will require a lot of ground work. and someone reliable at home who can take care of it all.
