How much money do we spent in the residency season?

Lets say we will include

2- 50 FM places
3- 10 psychiatry

add the paper work to send and the interviews

thanks

i do not subscribe to the school of thot that says the more money you spend the more likely your chances are, that is absolutely not true.
the most important thing is to
1 do your research! that is more important than applying widely
2 asses your self then asses the program to be sure your qualificatiion matches the expectation of the program
3 Make a list of your contacts and pursue them earnestly eg people who were in your med school even if they were yrs ahead of your then make early contact with them so during the interview season when the become evasive you would already have struck up a rapport.Explore the option of friend and friend of friends
4 invest you money wisely deceide where your target area is and try and apply to places that are close to each other that meet the other 3 criteria this saves you money eventually cos you might be able to scedule tham close to each other and save money later.
I learnt these tips from my younger sis who applied in 06 she applied to 26 programs and before your next comment she applied with only one result and does not have double 99.of these she got over 13 interviews.
In the last match my husband and I applied to 40 programs each (again not 99/99)and this is because we wanted to hopefully match in the same area. He started researching on those programs from january last year at which time the PC were taking calls and are more willing to answer your question candidly and by the time it was application season we had all the information we needed to apply based on our pecularities. For example he was 9 yrs post grad at the time he did not apply to any program that had the 5yr limit without having a contact there that he was sure could deliver an interview.
so people use you money wisely it cost me about 400 to apply and I did get my fair share of interviews

i aree to most extent E20..but most imgs dont have the facilty to be in the country long enuff to make contacts, reseach ect..also each year the number of applicants go up exponentially...so the number which seemed good last year is not so anymore....also lotofus finish with our exams and results justin time for application..
so visa requiring imgsneed toapply to a large number ofprogrmas unless they have something very expecptionally good on their c.v.....thats unfortunately the truth....

But i agree with ur point about applying wisely....smiling face

Very nice advices, E 20, thank you. I think people get desperate and do things without putting a lot of thought and remembering how hard it is to earn that kind of money. They think it's a part of the process, but the ones that take their time to research can save a lot, and make PCs and PDs workload lighter. Remember, we want them in a good mood, too! nod

i agree with you all.its true that more than the number of applicants i think its the number of spots people are applying has increased.its better to apply wisely.
also one more thing is many are just applying in multiple feilds, like im,fm,psy, paeds.i mean i think one should know their feild of choice even before they apply rather than accepting match in some undesired feild and later planning to switch etc.

If anyone is able to follow Prep4usmle, then you can research everything you need on the internet just like you are able to find info out on this website that you need, you can also google absolutely anything and anyone. and follow up with emails. this can be done from anypart of theworld now thanks to tech.

If you know you have plans of matching this yr even if you do not have all your results that is the time to make contacts and start your machinery going.
After every exam and result we would update our contacts on the status quo like i said earlier this can also easily be done via email

I had only step 1 when i applied even though that is not the ideal I did not let that stop me. i took step 2 in oct well into the interview season but i scheduled my interviews only when i was sure iwould have my results.
