I am just wondering, if I have a J1 research visa for 6 month to 1 year, and then I want to apply for a residency program, will I still be able to apply for a H1b? or since I used the J1 I am automaticaly restricted to a J1 clinical??

I hope someone could help me!! smiling face

I have a slight confusion , with an incling that you shall have to opt for a J1

depends if u have the j1 which has the 2 yr home residency rule requirement applies to ur J1 or not...if it does apply u cant switch to any other visa type without completing that requirement....if it doesnt apply then u can switch to H1...but there is another rule of not getting another J1 for 2 yrs after ur current J1 ends....but not sure about that...you should consult somebody.

Check with ECFMG for the rules or an immigration attorney - I don't think you can.
