To kalyanova, If you want to subscribe both Kaplan and UW, you can use one in the subject-tutor mode and the other in the random-timed mode. At first I thought I would use UW only, and I wanted to use it to simulate the actual exam. I did finish all the reading before doing Qs. But then I found out I had extra time, so I subscribed Kaplan. I used the 2008 on-line version. I recalled that my exam had a few really difficult Qs, which I happened to see in the Kaplan Q bank. One exactly the same Path picture from WebPath (I felt like winning the lottery when I saw it!) None of them were from UW. Besides, Kaplan catches more medical ethics principles in the actual exam than UW (You can just use common sense for the Behav Sci Qs in UW). Kaplan's Physiology is also better. Interestingly the Qs from UW and Kaplan don't quite overlap. So it won't be a waste of money if you purchase both. Just don't use Q Book. It sucks. Again, for pathology, don't forget the 1000 Qs in WebPath. There're always more Path Qs in the exams. It's good to focus a bit more on it.

Immunology is enough. This field is booming in the last few years. I found a couple of Qs on new knowledge which you can't even find in any textbook. You can only guess. so doesn't matter which book you use. Micro is easy. You can kill it w/ Kaplan alone. Embryology and histology are not bad, depending on your goal. If you want > 240 then you need another book (Kaplan LNs or HY). I like Goljan a lot but if you don't want to get it or read it, then FA + Webpath (online free resource) is more than enough. Two Q banks definitely would help you more than just one, unless you score > 80% for one already.

docninetynine, I would say yes to your question. You still have three months!! I finished it in two weeks! Try to read as fast as you can. If you haven't started Kaplan for Path, then discard the Path part in Kaplan. Stick with Goljan. If you already read Kaplan, maybe you can read the margin notes and look at the pictures in Goljan to save time. Believe me or not. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you study, you'll forget > 30% materials when you finish. So speed up!!. Leave more time for Qs (such as Webpath) and reviews.

Hi baso, 77% is a good score. But general pathology is only a small proportion of the Webpath, so I can't say for sure. Webpath is more a study material than an evaluation tool. For evaluation, you can actually use the four exams in the last part of Webpath. If you can score > 80%, then you are in good shape for this subject. What is your goal for the score? You still have 3 weeks to go. Your score can go higher supposing your review is efficient. What's your score in UW? Did you finish it? See if you can finish the Q bank and go over it again. If you can't achieve that within the amount of time you have, then you need more time. Think about postponing the exam.

Cherryho, I am an IMG. I am starting to study to Step 1. I have read a lot of advices in this site, but yours is my favorite. I bought Goljan RR, and I like this book very much. Do you know the Kaplan Home Study? Thanks!

Thanks carol, I am flattered. My goal is to score > 240 in an efficient and money-saving way. As an IMG graduating 5 yrs ago, I am glad I achieved that and happy to share my experience with you guys. Sorry that I don't know much about the Kaplan home program. As far as I know they give you lecture notes which (the used ones) you can buy on ebay or Amazon, and videos (some people may know how to get them). It's probably a cheaper way to get the materials than to join the program.

Hi and congrats Cherryho. Ur marks are wonderful!!!! Thanks for the advice too. I was hoping to do my exam in about 5days but due to some reason I freaked out and I postponed. Now I have almost 4weeks to prepare. My NBME score was not what I wanted either (440) which is around 83 I think. Hoping to do FA again and go thru Kaplan q bank again too. I'm not good in Renal & behavioral . Can u suggest anything to improve? Thank you .

tdbchoco, I am not very good @ behav sci either. For medical ethics I tried to read the explanations and the concepts in Kaplan Q bank and I think it sort of helped. For biostats, FA is enough. Which part of renal is your weakness? If it's acid base you should read Goljan. In the actual exams I probably got 5-10 Q's from this topic. Definitely HY. The acid-base Qs in my exam were a little bit more difficult. You need to spend more time on it. Renal physiology: read FA + BRS. Make sure you understand every figure and chart. If your phys is set then the renal pharm should have no problem.

tdbchoco, I started my study with behav sci, and I am studying from HY Fadem. Many many concepts that you can read in Kaplan books are more clear in HY. I like the "Patient snapshot", so you can apply many concepts to an specific case. Sometimes behav have many abstracts ideas, so for me HY, it´s a good book to study.

Cherryho, Thanks! I think, I am going to study in the Kaplan NL. I was reading some chapters, and it´s more easy to study in those books than the Home Study. Thanks again Cherry, and good luck for your next Step.

Hi cherryho Thank you for the advice. Can u pls paste the webpath site address? And I tried to study Goljan acid base(for the second time) - the anion gap part is tough.... is it very important to know the anion gap metabolic acidosis? I have done the whole Goljan RR once and certain chapters twice and listened to all his lectures once / but now I'm thinking of doing only FA cos I have only 3 weeks..... is that a bad idea? Sorry to trouble you with loads of questions. Tc
