Congrats on a great score!!

Okay i was aiming for 99 and here is my progress so far:
NBME 1: 2 months before: 480
UW average- 64%
UW Assessment( 1 week before)- 570(234)

i am scared that i will not get 99 since u got 560 on it ... do u know why ur correlation was way off?

  #30

sorry i meant NBME 1: 480 2months before

  #31

hey does uw assessment test tell u the % of questions u got right or just says the 3 digit score?

Hey Shwe, Ujk; Thanks for your wishes!! Nice to see our old friends smiling face

Sorry did not know that there were new posts here....thanks yousefreda, usmlekiller and dr_puma.

yousefreda, I am not sure exactly why the correlation was off, but I am guessing that one of the reasons was that I was too anxious on the test day, was even quite sick, so that probably affected my performance. I was actually excited to see 560/232 on the UW assessment a week prior to my exam....rolling eyes anyways...it is what it is.....

So my suggestion, keep studying, and don't bother about the correlation, and keep calm on test day, you should do very well....and maybe do another NBME nearer the exam to see where you stand.

And usmlekiller, the UW assessment gives a 3 digit score, 2 digit score, an analysis of your performance ie strong and weak areas like NBME, and when you go to review the blocks, you actually know how many questions right in each block....so you can have a rough idea of what percent of questions you got right....

I don't remember exactly how many I got right....around 150/200 I think....

Good luck all of you nod

gauri14: I have heard of people getting a good score with Kaplan Q bank alone, but of late, the trend is that the questions are more of 3 step thinking, and the clues are sometimes hidden. Kaplan Q bank questions are more direct, and the clues are quite obvious in most questions. They have updated the bank this year and is better now than before. I found the Behavioural Science questions useful from this bank, but I did not complete it.

But in my experience, USMLE World gives better exposure to some twisted questions and the explanations are great. If one were to pick ONE bank, I would pick UW, but if you have the time (and money grin) to do 2 banks, then do both...but in short, I felt UW was better. Here is the link to do UW questions: www.usmleworld.com.

It is better to buy it because it gets updated often and you would need experience with timing yourself, choosing different subjects to test yourself on etc.

NBME has some great practice tests, 200 questions each. There are some downloads if you look around in the forum but I did the online forms [www.nbme.org] because it gives you a great analysis of your approximate performance on actual test with our strengths and weaknesses and an approximate score.

Good luck and let me know if you need more info! nod

drms: Thanks!! Good luck with your prep! It is amazing how you manage studying with a child smiling face

Thanks abumeiss, antidepressant and nootropic for your kind words.

@abumeiss, the topic on 3 digit and 2 digit score has been extensively discussed in the forum. The final 3 digit score to pass in Step 1 is 185, and the highest I have heard so far is 267. In NBME, the 3 digit score can be upto 800, but the safe range to pass is about 450 on 800. The 2 digit score is not a percent or a percentile, apparently that number is determined by how you perform on that day against all other test takers.
