yes, ALS...

& for explanation: most cases of ALS are sporadic, however when it is a case of familial, there is a defective superoxide dismutase gene on chrom 21.....so there wld be a superoxid free radical damage to neurons....

that was good question SPINAL SHOCK ,therefore more comment: cytosolic copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1) mutations cause type 1 amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.this abnormality in the enzyme is replaces the amino acid alanine with the amino acid valine at position 4 in the enzym, that is the etiology of continued stimulation of motor neurons in specified locations that causes them to burn out and die (excitotoxicity). and genetic etiology of the disorder in molecular Location on chromosome 21 is at base pairs 31,953,805 to 31,963,114
