how much does a step 3 failure effect the application if other credentials are good like other scores are in high 90s and some USCE?do progams reject applications on basis of step 3 failure too?bbb and others please reply..thanks.

make sure you take it and pass it before you start. That will be very encouraging for the program. But if you do not feel confident just don't mention it. If they ask, tell them that you didn't anticipate how hard it would be, and that now you are preparing much better to have great score the next time... Do not worry, step 3 is only a plus if you have it, but if not it really doesn't matter

If a program mandates that applicants pass on the first attempt, it will count you out. Don't take it until you know you can pass it.

thanks for your replies...i already took it and passed on second attempt with 81 score,failed it first time with 73 on report.its frustrating to know that programs consider a failure on step 3 as a point for rejection knowing that this exam is meant for residents though.

I think what bbb meant was in the case you hadn't pass the test yet, you would be out, on your current situation I would not worry at all. the fact that you have it now is what matters.
