Hi I am interested on the surgical stream and I am IMG from India.I graduated in 2006. I heard IMG(s) find tough to get into Cardio Thoracic , Neurosurgery or other surgery streams. Pls guide me how tough is it and if it is really tough , suggest me how to approach it. Does anyone has externships list for surgery? I am presently living in California with my family and on H4 visa. TIA

Hello Sang_Usmle, I am very happy to read your post my situation is the Same. I am Mch (Ped. Sur) from India. Here on H4 visa. Want to go for Surgery Residency and people are telling me the same kind of things like Surgery is tough. Do you have information since you posted this long time back. A friend of mine told me that first take Prelim year in Surgery and see whether you can do it or not. And later on you can continue as your first love or leave surgery and change your branch. The first prelim year will help you in getting residency in Next match 2010. It is easy to get into Prelim. You spend one year extra but atleast you get paid? What do you say. Please let me know what else you know.

Just a friendly side question. Why do you want to go through residency all over again when you are already a peds surgeon??
