Hi everyone,

First of all thanks for all the great work everybody is doing here! Here is my sad state of affairs. I initially planned on giving the exam in June. I study full time, but also have family, so less time in evening and less/no time in weekends. But , on weekdays, I still manage to study a lot!! I plan to finish my first read this week, but do not seem to retain anything. It has been a long time for first read only!!! To make things worse, neuro, genetics, immuno are the ones that are high yield, but I am so confused with these subjects!!! I do not know what to do. I really want to do this for myself and my family, who have sacrificed more than their share. It is to the point of being painful for all of us. Please help and guide me. Due to some situations, I cannot delay my exam more than 1 1/2 months. Please guide me. Thanks and regards,

sm.

First, I just want to clarify that "neuro, genetics, and immuno" are not really THE high yield subjects. Anyhow, if you only have 1 and a half months till your last date, I will suggest that you sit for an NBME assessment exam Tonight. Study your Weak subjects, read FA, do Qs. Till your last day. Take another NBME assessment exam. If you are satisfied with your score go ahead for the exam the next day. If you do bad or not as good as you wish DONT go to the exam at all. Losing $800 is probably better than a 2nd attempt on your residency application.

Please anyone correct me if I am wrong.

I think you should make it very clear and straight forward to your family that you must do well on this exam and that you know they would not want to hurt your future. Try to study away from distraction, downstairs, upstairs, at the library, where ever...

GL... smiling face

Although Immuno is supposedly not considered to be a high yield subject, from what I have heard and also based on my own experience from studying I think that it is VERY important to have a good understanding of Immuno as it is a key subject in regards to the integration of the other basic sciences as well as the underlying cause of many diseases. If you study Micro and Pathology without knowing your Immunology you can end up in a world of trouble.

Thank you praying4a99 and DRchromatin for your guidance and advice. Could you please suggest some clear conception books about Genetics, one of my feared subjects? Also, for neurology , histology, anatomy pics, if I look at webpath and whole brain atlas, there is a vast amount of information, and I get stressed even opening one page. I have been doing anatomy and neurology, and embryology from high yield and histology from kaplan (2000 edition!) Kindly suggest. Thanks and regards,

sm
