The graph show relationship between the expression of repressor protein and expression or the lac Z gene in E. Coli. ( don have a pic but it was showing a straight line of 100% of expression of Z gene). Which mutation in genetic elements of lac operon could account for this relationship?
1.lac Z protein with no affinity for substate
2. lac Z protein with inc. affinity for substrate
3. lac Z promoter with no affinity for RNA polymerase
4. repressor with inc affinity for operator
5. repressor with no affinity for operator

Please, any thoghts. I don't have an answer on this one . I thought that might be repressor with no affinity for operator so that alowes prodction of enzymes who would metabolise lactose.

Thinking that it is a straightforward question I would choose answer 5.repressor with no affinity for operator .

Reason Answer 1,2 and 3 are not making much sense for the amount of info given under lac operon-Gene regulation chapter.

Answer 4 is not true as if repressor has increaded affinity to the opertor it will not let mRNA make Z gene.

Answer 5 looks right .(Explanation:if repressor has not affinity for operator just like it happens in the presence of lactose,Z, Y and A genes are made.)

Hope I am right, would love to know the reason otherwise.smiling face
