Hi, I'm a newly passed grad from India of Malaysian origin.I would like to request information on the following 1.Is there a high visa rejection in the us embassy in Malaysia(as it is in India) for doctors? 2.Should i go direct with my scores for the step 2 cs visa? 3.If there is a visa problem then what are alternatives(for eg., Gre, Mph etc.,) 4.Are scores important for the issuance of the Cs visa? Any reply is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dennis....I'm from malaysia too. From what I know is malaysians generally don't have a problem in obtaining visas......I don;t know the statistics but I have never come across anyone being refused visas unlike the stories i hear from people from India(I'm a manipal grad),Pakistan and also the middle-East.....I guess it could be due to overquota or security reasons in these countries?I'm from KL.What about you?You can contact me at yadav02@yahoo.co.uk.....its nice to know a malaysian doc wants to give USMLE since there aren't too many of them.Bye

Hi Letti, To extend your visa I think you will need to contact the immigration directly and give them proof of you sitting for usmle part 1 later this year, hence the extension till that period of time.In regards to conversion to student's visa....no clue???I can only guess that you can obtain a student's visa only if you have enrolled into a course.....its only a guess....best to contact the immigration for the best visa option for you.

hi Malaysian. Thanks for your reply. I know that when you register for the USMLE, they give you the pink slip/permit thingy...is that what you meant immigration will need for an extension of the visa? Thanks for all your help.

Hi Letti, It might be a good idea to consult with an immigration lawyer before doing anything as some times immigration give problems if you come into the country with a visitors visa and then try to change status..just an advise.Good luck in your studies.

I'm not aware of any pink slip since I haven't even registered for any of the steps yet.I hope you've sorted your immigration thing by now.
