Pain is continuous and does not radiate anywhere. His stools are loose and contain blood and mucus. He states that he ate a chickenburger from a local restaurant in New York 3days ago. His vitals are stable; Temperature: 37.3C (99F). Abdominal examination reveals tenderness in the right iliac fossa, but there is no rigidity or rebound tenderness. Stool examination shows numerous pus cells and RBCs. What is the most likely etiological agent responsible for this patient's diarrhea? (and why pls)

A) Campylobacter jejuni

B) EHEC

C) Vibrio cholera

D) Shigella

E) Yersinia enterocolitica

ate Chicken 3 days ago and got bloody diarrhea since 2 days... Sounds like it could be campylobacter, however campylobacter usually causes bloody diarrhea within a few hours.
Campylobacter is also the MCC of invasive diarrhea, so it's a safe guess.

E.coli is more associated with undercooked hamburger meat.

yea, UW says Campylobacter. but why not yersinia? rt. lower quadrant pain (yersinia mimics appendicitis)

A. Campylobacter

Yersinia=Pseudoappendicitis. This pt has no fever, no periumbilical pain radiating to RLQ, no rigid, no rebound, then it does not deserve pseudo-.

it's about picking up the most common. Yersinia is no where near the prevalence of campylobacter.

I agree with Dr virgo... C for campy sounds right since there is puss and rbc's in stool. They took the liberty to tell you chicken not hamburger.
