If CN 2 had been an option, would you have choosen it? I think CN 2 lies closer than CN 3 to PCA.

bluestart if you have first aid 2004, look on page 106, it actually shows a real good picture of cirlce of willis and cranial nerve three is right next to posterial cerebral artery, i know these things can get confusing so its best to look at a diagram. Also anytime you see posterior cerebral artery aneurysm, the nerve has to be CNIII, according to my friends who have taken step 1, its a common board question. :o)

The Posterior Communicating Artery never comes near CN2. It does have some relationship with the optic tract, which is the posterior extension of CN2, of course, but CNIII actually passes between the PCA and MCA I believe, snugged right up to the Posterior Communicating Artery,

Now I know. From another arterial image I saw, the post. communicating A looks close to CNII, that's why I asked the Q. but now I've learned imgae can be misleading. Thank you guys very much!

Idiopathic - CNIII will pass bw PCA and superior cerebelar artery

If you see a picture of the superior view of the hypophysis both posterior CA and CNIII go along each other untill the nerve pass between PCA and SCA as shrek mentioned
