BRS pathology book says, Ghon complex is the lesion of initial infection in TB. Wikipedia says, Ghon focus is the lesion of initial infection in TB. Goljan seems say, both are only in primary TB. I am confused with them, please correct for me. Thanks!

All above sources seems to be ok. I will try to put it together...TB can be primary and secondary. Primary TB is the first infection. Ghon complex is a calcified lung lesion + calcified local lymph node. It is present only in primary TB and it is initial infection. Secondary TB is reactivation of old infection. Hope, it will help...

Agree with sigh, 'cept one thing. Correct me if I am wrong , Ghon's complex with ghon's focus is the site of primary infection (with caseous necrosis). When it gets calcified, its called Ranke's complex.

Thanks, sign and hitesh, for clearing my mind! Both Ghon focus/complex can be seen in the primary TB. Caseation can be seen in both of primary and secondary TB; but extra-lesions and cavitation can be seen only in secondary TB. Ghon complex is also called primary complex. Happy studying!
