Hi people Im new here. I have a question for you guys. So basically I was suppose to write my exam last year in September 07. I even had a window for it but never actually set up a date. What Im trying to say is that I had a window for July 07-Sept 07 but in that time I never set an actual exam date cuz I didn't feel ready. Then I paid a small fee to extend my eligibility period from Oct 07-Dec 07, but again I didn't write the exam. I didn't even set up a date. So I lost my entire step 1 fee. Now here I am with a whole new window. This time I repaid the entire fee again and chose a window period of April 08-June 08. Ive been studying and it's been okay. Not exactly what I would have wanted it to be, but Im getting there. The problem is that I think Im going to need an extra month to do well on this exam. I know I still have all of June left, but Im going to need an extra month on tp of that But Im scared now......how bad do you think it's going to look with ECFMG when it shows up that this is my third time choosing a window and that I still need a month's extension? Will this be documented or used against me in any way? Please if anyone has any information please let me know.

I do not know the answer to your question. But next time, you should probably wait until you are ready then register for the exam.

do u seriousli think ecfmg has this column on score report and has a duty to let Program directors know, how many times u applied or rescheduled the exam or applied for slot extension ? do u seriousli think that Program Directors even if presented with such information will MAKE A NOTE OF IT and not call u for the interview even if u get 99 ? do u seriousli .... ? ha................? Hheheheheheheh , My dear dear friend.... Pls do watever u want to score ur desired score. U r paying them enough money for ECFMG to do such nasty things of futile interpretation and consequence. oh come on dude.... cheer up You gotta Write the exam onli when u feeel confident enough... Its not like u failed or sat for exam and then left it in the middle...Its just a no show... Which no body cares if u pay them the money and re-apply according to their restrictions and rules... What p499 told is the best way to do it, if u r unsure when to take an exam, so u can follow it for step 2 ck... Prepare and then in ur 3rd read decide when u will be most prolly giving the exam and apply for approprite slot then... And u didnt lose th eentire step 1 feee when u reapplied .You, instead , gained a HUGE opportunity to obtain ur desired score on step 1, that too , without maknig a failed attempt... Think positive....U cud change that screen name too... Ths exam stresses out all.. including the brightest students.... Thats why its called an EXAM... a TEST of ur patience , perseverance and intelligence and memory ... and all those qualities which will HELP make u a good doctor.. Its not that if u failed this exam that u r going to be a GR8 DOC. Its not that if u scored heavily on this exam that u r going to be GR8 DOC. Its just a prelim test of ur knowledge and skills under standardised conditions to select those candidates who are READY TO BECOME DOCS IN USA and join the much much much harder RESIDENCY.... so.....hehehehehehhehe... i am stilll tickled by your doubt... No offence.... so.... cheer up... enjoy the stress and tough times... study welll ... ALL THE BEST to ur exam from this whole forum. If u still have doubts ruining ur preparation , Pick up ur phone and call ECFMG and ask ur doubt. Dont mind if he doesnt understand u the first time.... cos it may be prolly the first time he hears it... He will definitely tell u the same... Nothign but a failed attempt wil be included in ur records. Google for ECFMG contact phone number.

I do not think ECFMG cares about how many times you pick a slot or postpone it. And it will not show on your score report anyways. But, if you have been posponing the exam just because you 'thought' you were not ready, believe me, you will never feel totally prepared for it. Just pick a date and take the exam. Ofc, judging your prep with NBME 2-3 wks before the exam would be advisable. Good Luck!
