Hi all, I had a question about the timing of step 3 and I appreciate any comments. I have heard two different suggestions on when to take step 3: * Some say that having passed step 3 (not necessarily a great score) helps in getting interviews (meaning take step step 3 early and submit along with scores of other steps.) ** Others say that a passed but low score will appear in your application and will ruin your application -> decrease your chance of getting an interview--> (suggesting 1. asking for H1 in application 2.arranging for step3 3. during interviews mentioning that you have arranged for step 3 4.taking the exam after interviews ) Can please tell me what you think Rose

The PDs I tlaked to think passing the step 3, no matter the visa situation, helps the applicant, "specially if the score is high" - their words. I think passing is easier if you do it right after step 2 CK, and helps you to learn a few more things before becoming an intern. That's why I'm going for it!

Let's put it this way" having a good step 3 score won't hurt a bit. Depending on your visa situation: 1. h1- you might wanna take step 3 before or during application process. If you have decent scores on the other steps, a more average score on step 3 won't hurt you. Most people score lower in step 3 compared to steps 1&2. PDs are aware of that. But having the score ready will signal that you don't have any hurdles to get visa quickly after matching/prematching. But I also think that if you have really good scores in step 1 and 2, there would be less of a question whether you can pass step 3 or not in the eyes of the PD. 2. j1- does't really matter, the same with GC. I am a GC holder and did not have step 3 at the time of interview and match. Nobody even asked me about step 3. I just took it in March, for my own sake, to have it out of the way. So it all depends on your personal situation and if you can spare the time and resources to prepare for yet another exam. Whatever you decide: good luck!
