forum members those who have had their H1 visas stamped please shed some light.

Can we travel few days in advance of the 10 day rule.

Will the visa officer at embassy stamp a particular date on passport when we would be allowed to enter the US.

I'm confused as I want to book air tickets but I'm not sure if they will stamp a particular date on the passport for travel....

Visa officers have no business with the admission date. The terms and date are determined while crossing the US border at the port of entry. The visa itself will have only date of expiration, i.e. the period of time it is valid to enter the US. Each visa should be accompanied by a document forming the background for visa issuance. If your contract letter says that you have to join program on June 20, you will NOT be admitted before June 10, that is clear. The US customs officer will not admit you. Technically, you should not be even sold a ticket for a flight earlier than that date.
To avoid confusion, book the ticket accordingly to common sense. Start following the US laws and rules from the beginning.

My visa has been stamped with validity date starting from 28th april. But on asking my lawyer the response was that they might let you in if you could convince them of the reason for coming earlier or they may not. its a risk if you want to take it. Another information i got from a friend of mine who is processing h1b also. his lawyer said if you enter earlier than the 10 day rule it will affect you in the future (no details about that).

Here is the detail: entering earlier is a violation of immigration law. US customs is never a good place to try your good luck.

I was clearly told by my lawyer not to enter before 10 days. they may send you back immediatley..... everything is very monitored; when you file for GC, your entry and exits will also be noted at that time. your early entry may not be a problem now, but dont risk your GC application... you never know what gets into their heads; It is a Violation regardless of your reasoning.
