May be if you have a lot of time on the exam and dont know what else to do, then mukho is right, do it.. But, I'd say just mention it on the work up. Personally, i didnt have any spare time on the exam to do anything more than the bare minimum. I'd rather talk to the SP than do dix hallpike or orthostatic vital signs etc. Good Luck!

yeah i did the orthostatic BP too...god i really didnt know what to do in that case...it was like ummm ummm...maybe i'll do ur BP!! In fact the weird thing is everything was negative and when i came out of the room i realised what i didnt ask was menstrual history to rule out anemia as a possible cause of dizziness presenting as vertigo...big screw up...so on this u should not listen to me sorry dont mean to psyche u out 2 days before exam!

hehe.. Well, that just proves the same old thing again.. You dont need to be perfect! not even anywhere close to it. You just need to be efficient given the time constraint. And just remember 1. Pamhugsfoss (which will include the menstrual history ) 2. an SP is like a lil' kid, take as good care of him/her as you can. Good Luck!

On the cs protocol website, he says just mention it on the workup, but you don't have to actually do it, but I guess everyone reacts differently durring stressfull times (like this exam!!) So if you did do it, I don't think that's a problem either. I hope I can gather my thoughts durring this exam and use my time efficiently! http://csprotocol.blogspot.com/2005/08/were-you-planning-to-measure-bp-dont.html Good luck! and thanks mukho and hitesh for the words of great advise!

Thanks arlete. How does the bed tilt? I'm asking about checking for JVD. I don't want to damage ECFMG's property: the bed as well as the SP!! Please help me out. Thanks.

yeah u can chek it out during the orietation..and i am glad u can cause there is some amount of skill involved when you pull it down cause it tends to snap down and that is uncomfortable to the s..p .....hence for you..!!!! fortunately u can tinker with everything before the exam so that shud be easy... all the best..!!!

Btw, i did not measure JVP in any of my cases, though one of the cases warranted it. I just forgot. But I dont think it counts for a lot anyways. And I wouldnt measure it, considering the time it can take.. for that matter, do we even have a scale for our use in the exam..? But surely, if u find JVD, it'd be worth making a note of. But I'd only care for it if I find it in the sitting position. I wouldnt take the time to look for it in an inclined position.. Just my two cents. I think arlete should talk about this a bit.. Good Luck!

I would tell the patient "let me help you to lie down, I need you to do it slowly" and I would put my arm behind his shoulders. When he reached 45 degrees, I would say "let me just check the veins on your neck, can you please move your head to the other side? Ok, thank you." I didn't need to do that during the test, either. But I think that would be enough.
